Use WanAPIs as a Proxy in JanitorAI

JanitorAI's API Settings let you add a custom proxy, which is any OpenAI-compatible API. Add the WanAPIs URL and your key to use Claude, DeepSeek, Gemini and more. Unlike SillyTavern, JanitorAI needs the full request URL, ending in /chat/completions. Please note: our acceptable use policy does not allow sexually explicit content.

Setup steps

    Create a key and pick its groups

    Create a key under API Keys in the WanAPIs console. Use the same group setup as step 1 of the SillyTavern guide: claude max for Claude. If you also want DeepSeek or Gemini, add default after it under Group priority order and turn Cross-group retry off.

    Open API Settings

    Log in to JanitorAI, open any character chat, choose API Settings from the settings menu and add a new configuration (Add Configuration).

    Fill in the configuration

    Fill in the fields as below. Copy the proxy URL exactly, including /chat/completions at the end.

    JanitorAI → API Settings → Add Configuration
    Config Name:   WanAPIs
Model Name:    claude-sonnet-5-5
Proxy URL:     https://api.wanapis.com/v1/chat/completions
API Key:       sk-xxx
Custom Prompt: (leave blank for now)

    Save and test

    Click Add, then Save Settings. Refresh the page and send a test message.

Known limitations

  • We have not tested this end-to-end in a JanitorAI account. Menu names may differ in the current JanitorAI version.
  • JanitorAI's own janitor+ Router is a separate paid service and has nothing to do with this proxy setup.
  • Claude 4.7 and later no longer accept custom sampling parameters such as temperature. WanAPIs removes them automatically, so the Temperature setting in JanitorAI has no effect on these models.

FAQ

Can I stop the proxy URL at /v1?

No. JanitorAI needs the full request URL including /chat/completions: https://api.wanapis.com/v1/chat/completions.

I get "No available channel for model … under group …".

The model name is wrong (wrong case or an extra space), or your key's groups don't include that model. Copy the model name from the model pages and check your key's groups.

Messages don't go through or I get an error.

Check that the proxy URL is complete, the key is correct and your account has balance. After changing settings, click Save Settings and refresh the page.

Can I use it for NSFW content?

No. Our acceptable use policy prohibits sexually explicit content, and we don't provide or support jailbreak presets.

Are my chats stored or used for training?

The gateway does not store chat content and never uses request content for training. Request metadata (no content) is kept for 90 days. Requests are forwarded to upstream model providers for processing. See our Data & Security page for details.
